Listen closely to what they DO!

It is so interesting to talk to people. You will hear all types of information; goals, dreams, fears, interests, etc… When it comes down to working with and interacting with people, I suggest that you truly listen closely to what they DO! They will tell you all kinds of things, with the greatest of intentions, but you are better off watching what they do. “I will never do that again.” “I promise, I will get better at that.” “I will pay you back.” “It was a mistake and I will never put my hands on you again.” I m sure you can add more than a few that you have heard, but in actuality, the same behavior, events, things have continued. Don’t fool yourself and think that your situation is different, in most cases it isn’t, and even if it is, there is not enough difference to warrant any change in action. Does this make the person or people doing these things bad, not necessarily, but if you don’t recognize the traits and behavior, you will be forever the patsy and wondering why you are always on the receiving end of the life lesson.

Learn to look, listen and evaluate without the filter of what someone can be. It is great to give someone the benefit of doubt, but after a few of the same experiences, it is time to wake up and smell what they are laying down and quit stepping in it. Ex; job hunting is a very daunting task and considering the current situation, it is just that much more challenging. All that taken into account, if someone says that they want to get a job, watch what they do and look at the result. Are they truly looking for work, getting resumes out, logging into websites and filling out applications, networking, hitting up temp agencies to see how to get into the door, or are they just complaining about the circumstances?
