I have a “10 ft” rule that guides many of my decisions and actions. You may ask well Leonard, what is this nefarious rule? Well I am glad you asked.
The “10 ft” rule explained.
Let’s say that you are trapped on an island and the only way to escape is to jump a 10 ft ravine which was setup as a deterrent to escape. Not only are there rusted metal spikes waiting at the bottom, but snakes, scorpions and crocodiles. Some of the more naturally gifted people have been able to make this jump and have headed on toward freedom. There are others though, who will never make this leap; that is another post, just keep looking out, as not everyone is going to make it. The rest have to work on their jumping skills. Some were only jumping 3 ft when they came across the ravine. Through hard work and determination, they had great success in increasing their jumping skills. Many doubled their initial attempts. 3 ft to 6 ft. that is AMAZING!! The only problem is, with all of that progress and great work, they are still 4 ft short and will be Shish Kabob dinner for those hungry critters at the bottom.
Yes, things are hard, times are hard and compassion is awesome, but reality lets us know that through it all, we are still held accountable for our choices, actions and sometimes inactions. Progress is great and sometime more than what you ever thought you could achieve, but sometimes that is still not enough. We have to learn to adapt, step up and go beyond. That is life!
